The cleansing oil that went viral for a reason — and keeps earning repurchases for another. The ANUA Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil dissolves blackheads, sebum, SPF and makeup in one pass, leaves no residue, and doesn't strip the skin dry. The formula is built around Houttuynia Cordata (Heartleaf) Extract — ANUA's hero active — alongside a rich complex of Jojoba, Macadamia, Olive, Sunflower and Grape Seed oils that nourish the skin barrier while they cleanse. Pores look clearer. Skin feels softer. That's it.

HOW IT WORKS

Self-emulsifying oil base. Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate and Sorbitan Sesquioleate are both self-emulsifying agents — when water is added during the rinse, they bind with the oil and lift it cleanly from the skin surface. No greasy film, no second wash required to feel clean (though following with a foam cleanser is recommended for a complete cleanse).

Houttuynia Cordata Extract (Heartleaf). ANUA's signature botanical. Heartleaf has well-studied anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties — it helps calm the skin during the cleansing process and supports the bacterial environment that contributes to blackheads.

Plant oil complex: Jojoba + Macadamia + Olive + Sunflower + Grape Seed. Five oils chosen for their affinity with skin lipids and sebum. Jojoba (technically a wax ester) closely mimics the skin's own sebum and is effective at dissolving excess oil from inside pores. Grape Seed is high in linoleic acid. Macadamia helps balance the formula. Together they cleanse and condition simultaneously.

Turmeric Root Extract + Tocopherol. Antioxidant actives that protect the skin from oxidative stress during cleansing and support a more even-looking skin tone over time.

Butyl Avocadate. A lightweight emollient ester derived from avocado that adds slip and a comfortable skin feel to the formula.

Contains Fragrance (Parfum). Not recommended for highly fragrance-sensitive skin — the ANUA Heartleaf Cleansing Oil Mild is the fragrance-free alternative.

GOOD FOR

Blackheads, clogged pores and congested skin · Daily SPF and makeup removal including waterproof formulas · Oily and combination skin wanting a thorough cleanse without dryness · Normal skin looking for a nourishing double-cleanse first step · Skin prone to dullness from accumulated sebum and buildup

Contains Fragrance and a rich plant oil complex. Not recommended for highly fragrance-sensitive or reactive skin. For sensitive or acne-prone skin, the ANUA Heartleaf Cleansing Oil Mild (fragrance-free, ester-based) is the recommended alternative.

HOW TO USE
  1. Dispense 2–3 pumps onto dry hands.
  2. Apply directly to dry face — no water. Massage in circular motions for 60–90 seconds, focusing on the nose, chin and forehead where sebum and blackheads tend to concentrate.
  3. Add a small amount of water and continue massaging — the oil emulsifies into a milky texture, lifting impurities from pores.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
  5. Follow with a water-based foam cleanser as the second step of double cleansing.

Note: Always start on dry skin — applying oil to wet skin reduces its ability to dissolve sebum and makeup effectively.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How does an oil cleanser remove blackheads?

Blackheads are oxidised sebum plugs — oil that has hardened inside a pore and darkened when exposed to air. Because like dissolves like, an oil-based cleanser is significantly more effective at loosening these plugs than water-based cleansers alone. The Jojoba Seed Oil in this formula closely mimics skin sebum in molecular structure, allowing it to penetrate the pore lining and help break down the hardened plug during massage. The emulsification step with water then lifts everything cleanly from the skin. Consistent use over several weeks typically produces the most visible improvement. This is educational information and does not replace advice from a qualified dermatologist.

Is the ANUA Heartleaf Cleansing Oil suitable for oily skin?

Yes — oily skin often responds well to oil cleansing precisely because oil dissolves oil. Water-based cleansers can over-strip the skin, triggering more sebum production as a response. This formula uses a plant oil complex that helps dissolve excess sebum and blackhead plugs during massage, then rinses away completely via the self-emulsifying base. Always follow with a foam cleanser as the second step to ensure all residue is cleared. Note: this formula contains Fragrance and Ethylhexyl Palmitate — if your skin is highly reactive or sensitive, the fragrance-free Mild version is the better option.

Do I need to use a second cleanser after an oil cleanser?

Yes — double cleansing is the recommended method. The oil cleanser functions as the first step: it dissolves oil-based impurities (SPF, makeup, sebum, blackheads) that water-based cleansers cannot fully remove. A second water-based foam or gel cleanser then removes any remaining oil residue, water-based impurities and traces of the first cleanser. Skipping the second step can leave a micro-layer of oil on the skin that, over time, may contribute to congestion.
